Location:
Bhumi Project is looking for a farm in Western North Carolina. After living in many farm communities, my experience is that location is key. The Asheville/ Charlotte area has great potential for attracting young people and generating income.

Goshala Farm:

The focal point will be on ahimsa diary and ox mill for grinding grains, fruits and generating power. The economic base of the farm will be Srila Prabhupad’s basic business plan, “produce nice food stuffs and diary products in the farm and send to the restaurants in the city and there will be no scarcity of money.” The farm will have a farm to table café and farm to table food trucks with in the surrounding cities, cabin rentals. All building structures will be vastu compliant, utilizing materials off the land with passive and alternate energy sources designed to fit the character of the local mountain setting. In addition to the main focal point of protecting the cow and the bull, the project will have other means of income and at the same time delivering the message to guest. These activities will include weddings, yoga retreats, cabin rentals and organic produce for sale. Also clean fun activities to attract people such as horseback riding, mountain biking, hiking, swimming, yoga classes, astrology and palmistry. We will develop a model of fusing the east with the west in the presentation of art, devotional music, dress, prasadam, classes and communications with guest.

Ox Mill :

The main focal point of the farm for both preaching and economic development will be the construction of an outdoor ox driven powered drive geared to turn a high rpm shaft inside a clean facility grinding grain; pressing apples/other fruits; fresh imported sugar cane and generating DC electrical power for lights and refrigerator for an off the grid facility.( see attachment below for details) Whats wrong with modern wheat? Why do americans suffer from bloating stomachs and gluten intolerance? How does an ancient food staple becomes toxic junk food? Grain has been at the heart of mankind's diet for thousands of years. It is, in fact, the foundation of civilization: it cultivate easily, stores for years in kernel form, releasing its nutritional bounty when the seed is ground and prepared into fresh breads or porridges. It's a 10,000-year-old food tradition thats gone wrong. What changed? First we invented mechanical technologies to turn wheat into barren white flour. Then we invented chemical and genetic technologies to make it resistant to pests, drought and blight and easier to harvest, dramatically increasing yield per acre. Basically we have mutant seeds, grown in synthetic soil and bathed in chemicals.

Non-GMO:

Our farm will use ancient non-GMO grains such as einkorn and others. There are organic companies now that are selling fresh ground einkorn flour at $9/pound plus shipping and wholesaling at $6/ pound. We can sell combination of retail & wholesale averaging $7/ pound. This business can grow into netting $500,000/year, being the only ox power mill in the US will create a tourist attraction. What to speak of the attraction for people to come to see Srila Prabhupada’s wishes of demonstrating the use of the ox working and the cow milking.

Organic Produce:

establishments in five farmers market in the surrounding cities, produce sales on the farm and CSA (community supported agriculture) for annual gross income of $95,000/year.

Farm to Table Food Trucks:

Srila Prabhupada’s business plan- “I have been telling you from the very beginning. Produce ghee in the farm and send to the restaurants and make Samosa, kachori preparations and they'll be no scarcity of money.” Five food trucks going to local cities and events can produce an annual gross income of $150,000/year.

Yoga retreats:

$1200 for a three day stay includes all facilities x 10 visitors/ retreat x 15 retreats/year is an annual gross income of $180,000/year. (I have experienced yoga teachers and chefs for the project)

Weddings:

The smoky mountains park gets over 10 million visitors per year. Weddings is a lucrative business. This farm offers an excellent location and choice for newlyweds. The cabins and tree houses will be built for lodging. The organic farm to table café will provide the reception dinner while decorated cows and devotional music provide a devotional background. Each wedding can generate a net profit of $20,000 x 10 weddings/year is an annual net income of $200,000. The weather in southern North Carolina is mild and weddings book from April to November.

Cabin Rentals:

Nightly visitors cabin rentals at $150 per night x 15 cabins x 20 nights/month x 9 months/year is an annual gross income of $405,000/year.

Dwellings:

Structures for cabin rentals will be cabins and tree houses. Structures for yoga retreats will be cabins, tree houses, tipis and camping. Structures for employees and residents will be multi family buildings, cabins and tiny homes.
